Biophilic design is the of merger of art and nature in your work and living environment
bi·o·phil·i·a (bi-fl-, -fly)
n.
An appreciation of life and the living world.
Definition
Biophilic Design incorporates Green Building, but considers that true sustainability must
expand its considerations to include quality of life issues involving total human physiological
and psychologicalhealth and well-being.
2 The word “Biophilia” was popularized by the Pulizer Prize winning Harvard Biologist and
Zoologist E.O. Wilson in 1984. It refers to the inherent human inclination to affiliate
with natural forms, systems and processes, especially life and life-like features of the
non-human environment.
3 Biophilic Design is the deliberate attempt to translate this affinity into the design of
modern buildings and landscapes, there by creating places which are instinctively
experienced as restorative, neurologically nourishing and beautifully alive.
